The roof edge is the strongest line on the building
Look at any house

Nothing else on the house runs that far uninterrupted, and nothing else has the sky behind it. Put light on it and the outline comes back, which is most of what people mean when they say a house looks good lit.Which is why almost every permanent lighting system starts at that line rather than anywhere else on the building. One continuous line, mounted once, doing the most visible job on the property: that is the case for it.
The hardware, plainly
The system is a slim aluminum track, color matched to the trim, with the LEDs running inside it. The channel does two jobs at once: it aims the light and it conceals the hardware. Because it matches the trim, you generally have to be told where it is.
Where the run goes
Every plan begins at the main roofline, and grows from there. Gables, peaks, porch edges, posts and upper runs all get considered, but not all of them get used. Outline everything and the house reads flat, which is the most common way a roofline plan goes wrong. The run itself repays a close look once a crew is done, since holding a true line across a long elevation is not simple.
What it looks like with the lights off
A roofline system is on the house every day, lit or unlit. Matching the channel to your trim color is not a cosmetic afterthought, it is what keeps the front of the home from looking decorated in summer. Tight to the line, color matched, wire tucked: that is the whole standard.
How it gets used
Once the run is in, it is a phone app and a color. Plain white most nights, color when there is a reason, and a schedule that runs it without you. The setting that gets the most hours is the warm white, which is not what most buyers expect going in.
Why quotes vary
Rooflines are not comparable by square footage. Linear feet is the first one, but it is not the main one. Every corner adds time. Two stories changes the job.
Where it fastens
The gutter comes up in almost every consultation. The channel fastens to the roof edge itself, rather than to gutter that flexes and fills. Fastening to the roof edge is what keeps the line straight for years.
The next step
Because every roof edge is different, the design has to be drawn for your building. EverCrest Lighting installs permanent roofline lighting for homes and businesses throughout Upstate South Carolina and Western North Carolina, working out of Greenville. The consultation is free.
